feverfew
With plant power against migraine attacks and headaches
The name "motherwort" already indicates the primary use of this time-honored medicinal plant... women, and motherhood. Traditionally, motherwort was recommended for menstrual cramps or labor pains. According to folk medicine, this medicinal plant has a regulating effect on menstrual cramps. Its anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties also make it an interesting treatment for rheumatism. Less well known is that motherwort is recommended and used very successfully for the prevention of migraines.
Feverfew – don’t worry!
The typical migraine pain is caused by the painful dilation of the blood vessels in the meninges. The hormone serotonin is responsible for the painful inflammation of the meninges. The bitter substance parthenolide contained in feverfew suppresses the excessive release of serotonin. The very unpleasant accompanying symptoms of a migraine attack, such as nausea and vomiting, can also be alleviated.
To prevent migraines, we highly recommend:
- a regular sleep-wake rhythm
- moderate endurance sports
- regular meals to avoid fluctuations in blood sugar levels
- and ... keep your own personal headache diary. This can help you identify your personal migraine triggers.
