Spring fit with dandelions

Dandelion – a medicinal herb that smiles and shines in yellow!

Every year, starting in April, it returns: the dandelion. Its sunny yellow, fluffy head stretches toward the sun and life... and we rejoice in it and with it! Its sunny appearance banishes the winter gray and draws our gaze and our longing toward the coming summer days.

Dandelions are more than just pretty to look at. Dandelions are more than just a playful ornament in your hair. Today we want to pay attention to a plant whose underlying positive qualities are too often overlooked. Simply because there are so many of them. Moreover, they are occasionally viewed as a nuisance weed in the garden.

From the flower heads to the stems and leaves to the roots, dandelions are used medicinally and in the kitchen. The flowers can be used to make a bittersweet syrup. The leaves and blossoms are healthy ingredients for a delicious smoothie or a crisp salad. When preparing salads, it's good to know that fresh, young leaves taste less bitter than fully grown ones. We'd like to share a trick with you: you can remove the strongest bitterness from older leaves by soaking them in salt water.

In folk medicine, dandelion is considered to be digestive, diuretic, detoxifying, and fat-reducing. Consumption is discouraged in cases of gallstones or gallbladder disease. Dandelion is helpful in treating metabolic disorders, bloating, flatulence, loss of appetite, rheumatic diseases, and arthritis. And as fresh as a summer breeze, it sweeps through your urinary tract, clearing the passageways.

Dandelion tea is a popular choice for springtime cures. Due to its diuretic effect, tea made from dandelion leaves and herb should be enjoyed during the day. Consuming it in the evening can easily disrupt your sleep. To prepare pure dandelion root tea, soak the roots in cold water for about an hour and then simmer gently for a good quarter of an hour. Dandelion root is said to have liver-cleansing properties.
