The natural ingredients of theRed vine leaf tincture – vitis vinifera dropsare: water, alcohol, red vine leaves.
We use the leaves to produce these very valuable drops.
The Latin name "vitis" can be translated as "twisting." "Vinifera" is composed of "vinum" = "wine" and "fer" = "bearing."
The red grapevine belongs to the grapevine family (Vitaceae). It is cultivated in Central and Southern Europe, Australia, and South Africa. There are 60 different species and over 16,000 varieties worldwide. The most well-known cultivated varieties are derived from the "true" grapevine, Vitis vinifera.
The vines climb up to 20 meters tall with shoots. The woody trunk bears rounded to heart-shaped leaves. The leaves are three to five lobed and coarsely toothed along the edges. The underside of the leaves is covered in felty hairs. The inconspicuous, yellow-green flowers, growing in panicles or umbels, attract bees and other insects. During the short flowering period, the insects buzz around the plant. The flowers develop into green to dark purple berries (fruits), which we value so much as grapes. In autumn, the leaves turn deep red. When dried, the leaves are bright red.
The Romans already described the health benefits of vine leaves. Modern phytotherapy is rediscovering their diverse uses. In addition to their health benefits, their culinary delights shouldn't be forgotten. There are recipes featuring stuffed vine leaves throughout the Mediterranean. Traditionally, they are filled with rice or meat. In France, vine leaves are often wrapped around cheese.
The “Association for the Promotion of Natural Healing According to Theophrastus Bombastus von Hohenheim, known as Paracelsus eV” has declared the grapevine the medicinal plant of the year 2023.
