The natural ingredients of theYam root tincture dropsare: water, alcohol, yam root.
We use the root to produce these very valuable drops.
Yams were cultivated as a staple food more than 10,000 years ago, as evidenced by archaeological finds in East Asia. The Greek physician Dioscorides gave the genus name "dioscorea" its name. "Yam" is said to be derived from the West African "niam," meaning "to eat."
Even Columbus brought yams with him as ship's provisions. Even today, the yam plant remains one of the most important staple foods in West Africa, Southeast Asia, and Central and South America.
The yam root is related to the lily family (liliaceae) and comprises six genera with over 600 species. Yam beans, sweet potatoes, and cassava, which are also tuber-forming and starchy, are not related to the yam plant.
Dioscorea villosa is a perennial climbing plant with stems up to 3 m long. Heart- or arrow-shaped leaves grow on square stems. The flowers are small and whitish-yellow in color. The flowers grow separately on separate plants. The female flowers form hanging spikes. The male flowers grow in panicles. The roots produce elongated, club-shaped root tubers up to 50 cm in diameter. The skin is firm, finely hairy, and blackish-brown or pinkish in color. The cut surfaces range in color from white, yellow, pink, to brown.
