In Bewegung – ein paar Fakten zu unserem Knochengerüst!

In motion – a few facts about our skeleton!

The joy of life and movement increases in the summer months. The later dusk invites more outdoor activities... true to the motto: "All life is movement!"

This is a good opportunity to take a closer look at our skeletal system. After all, it carries us through all our movements throughout our entire lives.

At birth, we have around 300 bones in our bodies. As we grow, these bones grow together to around 210. A remarkable number, especially considering that the skeleton accounts for only 10 to 15 percent of our total body weight.

Did you know that

  • During a somersault, the femurs bend by up to 2 millimeters and the skeleton has to withstand 20 times the body weight?
  • 64 bones are needed for a shrug
  • for one step 63 bones in motion and
  • 54 bones are responsible for the smooth functioning of a hand?

During a human lifetime, all the bones in the skeleton are formed by the age of 30. From the age of 30 onward, we lose 1.5 percent of our bone mass annually. However, up to one-tenth of our bone mass can be renewed annually.

It's never too late to incorporate more exercise into your daily routine. "Use it or lose it" applies to both mental and physical health. Even in advanced age, moderate exercise can help prevent muscle loss, improve bone density, and keep our joints supple. Regular, light exercise, avoiding alcohol and nicotine, and a healthy diet rich in calcium and protein can help prevent this. What's less well known is that Bitter substances promote the absorption of trace elements important for bones. Silica, calcium and magnesium are also found in the Nettle and the Field horsetail .

The miracle of the skeleton appreciates your active support and thanks you with mobility and strength.
