Nettle
The medicinal plant of the year 2024 for bladder, kidneys, blood, joints, stomach, intestines, metabolism!
The jury of the natural healing association “Theophrastus” named the stinging nettle the medicinal plant of the year 2022. The chosen plant was the large stinging nettle – the Urtica dioica – from which we produce our high-quality Duschlbaur's Nettle Herbal Tincture produce.
In plant mythology, the stinging nettle is considered a protective companion for home and farm. It nourishes and strengthens humans and animals. Even ancient naturopaths, such as Paracelsus, Hildegard von Bingen, and many practitioners of natural medicine, recognized the power of its versatile active ingredients. The leaves, roots, stems, and seeds are all medicinally effective.
In summer, you can see a silky cloud floating over the meadows. The delicate seeds of the male nettle plants begin their journey to the female nettles. This enchanting natural spectacle is known as the "wedding of the nettles."
Purely externally, the nettle's stinging hairs give it willpower and a defensive barrier. This life-enhancing fire also burns within its ingredients. Hildegard von Bingen already saw the nettle as the "green power of God," the "green fire," the "green life energy." Nettle is said to promote healthy blood formation and purification, improve oxygen supply to cells and the brain, optimize metabolism, strengthen the stomach and intestinal lining, improve uric acid excretion, stimulate the hormonal system, and much more.
In recent times, its active ingredients have been isolated and confirmed using modern scientific methods. Nettle is packed with valuable silicic and phenolic acids, silicon, potassium, magnesium, calcium, zinc, copper, manganese, and iron. It offers tannins, mucilage, high-quality fatty acids, carotenoids, phytohormones, and flavonoids. It provides 13 vitamins: vitamin A, the entire B vitamin complex, vitamin E, and vitamin C. Nettle leaves contain six times more vitamin C than lemons.
The nettle—Medicinal Plant of the Year 2024—is an anthropochorous plant. Anthropos means "human" in ancient Greek, and choreia means "dance." The nettle is therefore a plant that dances with humans. Fiery, passionate, and powerful!
