Bewährte Hausmittel gegen Fieber

Proven home remedies for fever

Fever is a smart thing. You don't want to emphasize that at first. Especially not when you physically feel like you're getting a fever and you're not feeling well at all. Our body's temperature regulation center in the hypothalamus uses fever to fight off unwanted viruses, bacteria, and other germs. Many pathogens cannot survive a body temperature above 38.5 degrees Celsius. When you have a fever, your immune cells work at full speed. For this reason, fever is the body's self-healing mechanism.

You should definitely seek medical help if it is not an obvious flu-like infection or if the fever remains high or keeps rising despite using home remedies.

If you have a fever, bed rest is recommended. The consistent warmth of the bed supports the healing process. If the thermometer shows more than 39 degrees Celsius, the fever should be treated.

Traditional and proven home remedies

Traditional and proven home remedies include Calf wrap and Vinegar socks. Please note that when cooling the body with calf compresses or vinegar socks, the rest of the body must be kept warm. This is best achieved with the previously described bed rest and a cozy, warm Hot water bottle.

For calf wraps or vinegar socks, mix five parts lukewarm water and one part vinegar. For the calf wraps, dip clean dishcloths in the vinegar water, wring them out lightly, and wrap them around your lower legs from the ankle to the knee. Wrap dry towels over them. Please change the wrap when the wraps get warm.

To make the vinegar “Patscherln” (Carinthian 😊), dip a pair of cotton or wool socks in the vinegar water, wring them out, put them on and wrap a dry towel around your feet.
